Lloyd Harris’ golden summer continues

September 7, 2021

The 24-year-old recovered from being a set down to beat American 22nd-seed Reilly Opelka 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 and become the first South African to reach the last eight of the US Open since Kevin Anderson in 2017. Harris’ best ever performance at a Grand Slam so far.

Lloyd’s golden summer continues after he first stunned 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal on 6 August 2021 by beating him 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in a third-round match at the Citi Open in Washington.

Harris’ opponent in the quarter-finals will be 24-year-old German an the 4th-seed at the tournament, Alexander Zverev, who was the runner-up at the US Open in 2020.

Flying the South African Flag we wish him from the depth of our hearts all the best.

If Harris does find a way to beat Zverev, then a semi-final against world number one Novak Djokovic or 6th-seed Italian Matteo Berrettini awaits.
