Ambivert

October 19, 2020

[ am-bi-vurt ] one whose personality type is intermediate between extrovert and introvert. Yet, despite this neither here nor there feeling that defines it, I find Ambivert a pretty word to paint or draw. It is dressed in some of the finest and interesting vowels and consonants in the alphabet, I daresay.

Ambivert, an eight-letter word dancing in the branches in what is slowly becoming my favourite tree.

Honestly, I don’t want to have favourites and I wish to give each one of my majestic garden friends equal and special attention, I hope to stay true. However, the branches and bark of Ambivert-tree are not thick, and the leaves are rather flimsy and somewhat wistful causing a bit of work when the wind comes out to play so we in for loads of laughter and a lot of scolding as our days roll by.

Ambivert I get the feeling is a grey matter that sits there in between primary and higher learning, stuck in the middle between you and you, introvert and extrovert.
Surrounding, encompassing and ambiguous, turning a little bit this way or that way, like a liberal some would politicize.

Before 1916 (introvert) and 1918 (extrovert) existed far apart from each other without the grey matter Ambivert who only arrived on the scene in 1927. Prior to 1916 I imagine we were all a mish-mash, a melting pot and a cosmopolitan of some sort.

Dictionary.com has the audience and readership of people from all over the world, it hasn’t recognised this yet. The word of the day persists with citing only home grown examples to define and bring meaning to us and the rest of the world continue reading.

A well-developed ambivert, he [Abraham Lincoln] could hold complexity and contradiction to stand firmly behind words America desperately needed ….Michael Alcee, “Why America Needs Introverted Extroverts Now,” Psychology Today, June 27, 2020

Ambivert, arrived as word of the day on 17 October 2020.

It’s not just a Monday, it is a fresh and glorious Monday morning. Soft rain fell through the night and I can feel the earth smiling. Morning glory, I can get use to the Ambivert weather, one day hot, the next day cold or cool. Cosy or outdoor every other day, so up my alley.

Wishing you a pleasant Monday…..I’m off for coffee.
